Here are some of the resources we have found useful.

We cannot guarantee that it will suit everyone but we wanted adopters in Wiltshire to know they existed.

Adoption West 

Free

Local Authorities in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire have joined together to provide a dedicated adoption service, for the children in these areas awaiting adoptive families.

 

The aim of this collaboration between authorities is to deliver an adoption service that offers improved outcomes for both children and those who want to adopt.

Wiltshire Council invested in a wide range of adoption related books.

Available in libraries in Wiltshire, these include books by:

  • Sally Donovan;

  • Kim Golding (PACE);

  • Todd Parr;

  • Deborah Gray;

  • and many more.

Christine Moers

Christine Moers is a birth and adoptive therapeutic mum who is passionate about sharing her experiences to help others struggling with attachment problems.  Christine uses a delightful mix of candidness, humour, and practical tips.

Happily Family

American couple, Cecilia and Jason Hilkey, are passionate about helping parents communicate with their kids to avoid meltdowns and power struggles.

Every year they offer a free online conference themed on a different aspect of parenting.

Adoption UK

Membership fees

Adoption UK is the leading charity providing support, community and advocacy for all those parenting or supporting children who cannot live with their birth parents. 

Recent changes to membership include Adoption UK Advantage: a bundle of offers and discounts on family brands in leisure, shopping, travel and lifestyle, access to a FREE legal helpline managed by a national firm of solicitors, and lots more... 

Beacon House

Free online resources

Beacon House is an integrated mental health and occupational therapy service offering a range of assessments and therapies for children, families, and adults.

They also offer some free online resources.

National Association of Therapeutic Parenting 

Membership fees

The NATP exists to provide support, education and resources for Therapeutic Parents and supporting professionals relating to therapeutic parenting, effective interventions, compassion fatigue and the effects of early life trauma.

Wiltshire Parent Carer Council (WPCC)

Free

Founded in 2008, the WPCC is an independent, voluntary organisation which is managed and run by parent carers, for parent carers.

 

With a membership in excess of 2500 parent carers across Wiltshire whose children range in age (0-25yrs) and in the type of special educational needs and/or disabilities they have, the WPCC offers incredible support and signposting.

There are a number of groups on Facebook offering support for adopters and parents dealing with attachment issues. 

Some are closed groups and you will need to be granted access.

Inspire Training Group

The online training branch of the National Association of Therapeutic Parenting.

There are short as well as more in-depth online training available.

Inspire Training Group was established in 2007 and draws on the experience of a number of professionals including Attachment specialists within the therapeutic community, adopters and foster carers.
